The College of Charleston equestrian team received several major Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Single Discipline awards, according to a March 23 announcement. Junior Lainie Rubin was named Flat Rider of the Year, senior Maddi Cardelli earned Fences Rider of the Year, and Hope Hewitt was recognized as Assistant Coach of the Year.
These honors highlight the achievements of both athletes and staff during the season. The recognition reflects strong performances in multiple categories across individual and team events.
The team also saw Jackamo selected as Horse of the Year and Oliver named Best Tournament Horse. Rubin’s accomplishments included being chosen for both All-Conference and All-Tournament Team in flat riding, as well as earning Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors in flat during the semifinals. Cardelli and junior Camilla Murray were awarded All-Conference recognition in fences competition.
Senior Olivia Welsh rounded out the Cougars’ accolades by receiving the Sportsmanship Award. These awards underscore a successful season for Charleston’s equestrian program.
As interest grows around collegiate equestrian competitions, these achievements mark an important milestone for Charleston’s athletes heading into future tournaments.
