No. 4 College of Charleston equestrian team achieved two wins at home, defeating No. 3 Sacred Heart and top-ranked Dartmouth to improve their National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) record to 4-3.
The Cougars tied Sacred Heart with a score of 4-4 but secured the win through a tiebreaker, outscoring them 812-803. In that meet, junior Camilla Murray was named Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) in fences with a score of 87. The team trailed going into the break but won three out of five points in the flat discipline, with Murray, along with seniors Olivia Welsh and Lainie Rubin, earning points for Charleston.
On Sunday, Charleston defeated Dartmouth 6-4 by winning four out of five possible points in fences. Senior Maddi Cardelli posted an MOP-worthy score of 89. Murray, Welsh and senior Olivia Lonneman also contributed points in fences for the Cougars.
Sophomore Samantha Aisenberg and Rubin scored key points early in the flat rounds against Dartmouth, helping Charleston secure victory over the nation’s top-ranked single-discipline program.
Charleston will compete next against Lynchburg and Centenary on February 27 and 28 at White Horses.
