Congresswoman Nancy Mace of South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District issued a statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The legislation passed despite opposition from some members.

“Keeping Americans safe is non-negotiable, and so is funding the people who do it,” Mace said.

She highlighted that the funding would allow agencies such as ICE, CBP, the Coast Guard, FEMA, FLETC, TSA, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to continue their operations without interruption. The funding also supports anti-trafficking programs.

Mace referred to current global conflicts and threats as reasons for supporting continued DHS operations: “With ongoing conflict in the Middle East and Iran-backed terrorist groups operating across the globe, this vote was a no-brainer, yet the Left still continues to oppose ending this costly and dangerous shutdown of DHS.”

She further stated: “Funding DHS ensures the men and women protecting our communities have every resource they need to do their jobs and keep our country safe.”

According to Mace: “Tonight the Left made their priorities clear, and it wasn’t the American people. We voted to protect the homeland, and Americans are safer because of it.”

She concluded her remarks by calling on Senate action: “Now the Senate must reverse course and get this bill passed. No excuses.”

Nancy Mace has served in Congress representing South Carolina’s 1st District since 2021 after previously serving in South Carolina’s state legislature from 2018 to 2020. She replaced Joe Cunningham when she entered Congress. Born in Fort Bragg in 1977, she currently resides in Charleston. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from The Citadel in 1999.
