Sophomore Meredith Miramonti and senior Maggie Armes were named Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) National Champions, according to a May 4 announcement from the Charleston Cougars Women’s Equestrian team.
The recognition marks the first time since 2015 that Charleston has had an IHSA national champion. Eliza Hay was the last rider from the team to achieve this honor.
Miramonti won the Individual Limit Flat event, while Armes secured first place in Individual Intro. The competition took place in Tryon, North Carolina, where three riders represented Charleston over the weekend. Sophomore Emma Heatherton also competed at Nationals alongside Miramonti and Armes.
This achievement highlights continued success for Charleston’s equestrian program on a national level. For more updates and information about Charleston equestrian, followers are encouraged to visit their Instagram account (@cofcequestrian).
