U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, who serves South Carolina’s 1st district in Congress, posted a series of statements on January 20, 2026, addressing themes of free speech and accountability. The tweets reflect her stance on the importance of truth and the boundaries of First Amendment rights.
In her first post at 12:01 p.m., Mace wrote: “Silence protects the powerful. Truth protects the people. I will always choose the people. SOUTH CAROLINA STRONG.”
Later that day, at 1:00 p.m., she addressed constitutional rights by stating: “The First Amendment gives you the right to speak. It does not give you the right to storm a church. Know the difference.”
At 1:25 p.m., Mace continued her commentary on free speech and victim advocacy, posting: “The First Amendment exists so victims can speak. Not so predators can silence them.”
Mace has represented South Carolina’s 1st District in Congress since 2021 after previously serving in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. She succeeded Joe Cunningham in Congress and is known for her focus on issues related to civil liberties and public accountability. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977, Mace resides in Charleston and is an alumna of The Citadel, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
