U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, who serves South Carolina’s 1st district, made a series of statements on her social media account late Tuesday regarding the looming federal government shutdown. In her posts, she attributed the responsibility for the shutdown to Democratic lawmakers.

In a post published on September 30, 2025, Mace stated: “We will be LIVE on @FoxNews @foxnewsnight at midnight as Democrats shut down the government because they want to prioritize illegal aliens over ALL honest to God American citizens.”

Later that evening, Mace added: ” The @WHOMB just signaled a government shutdown is imminent after Senate Democrats killed a clean funding bill to keep the government open.” This message came shortly after reports indicated an impasse in congressional negotiations over funding legislation.

Shortly after midnight on October 1, Mace continued her commentary with another post: “LAST SHUTDOWN: Fear of Trump’s Border Wall. THIS SHUTDOWN: Fear of Trump’s Tax Cuts. THEME: Democrats shut down the government because they can’t shut down Trump’s success.”

Nancy Mace has served in Congress since 2021 and previously held office in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. She succeeded Joe Cunningham as representative for South Carolina’s 1st district and currently resides in Charleston. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977, Mace is also an alumna of The Citadel, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
