U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, who represents South Carolina’s 1st district in Congress, used her social media account on October 1, 2025, to call for members of Congress to forego their pay during the ongoing government shutdown.

In a post published at 17:24 UTC, Mace wrote: “If our military are working without pay, so too should Congress. All of us need to forego our pay as long as we are shut down.”

She reiterated her stance in a subsequent message at 17:45 UTC, stating: “If our servicemembers are forced to work without pay, then Congress has no business cashing checks either. I will not accept my salary until this Schumer Shutdown ends and our troops get the pay they’ve earned.”

Later that evening at 18:26 UTC, Mace posted about an event appearance: “Headed to Clemson Turning Point @clemsontpusa tonight – see you there!”

Mace has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2021 after replacing Joe Cunningham. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977 and currently residing in Charleston, Mace is also a graduate of The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree obtained in 1999.
