Rep. Nancy Mace, who represents South Carolina’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on October 20, 2025, criticizing Democratic lawmakers over government funding priorities and the potential impact on military pay.
In a tweet posted at 17:41 UTC, Mace quoted Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, writing, “‘Every day gets better,’ says Schumer as 34,000 South Carolina servicemembers could go unpaid because he blocked the same clean CR Democrats voted for 13 times under the Biden administration.”
Later the same day, at 18:27 UTC, Mace wrote, “Democrats are so blinded by Trump Derangement Syndrome they’d rather side with cartel killers than stand with American families burying their kids.”
In a third tweet at 19:22 UTC, she stated, “Democrats won’t fight to pay our troops, but they will fight for:
$2.3M for reducing locusts in Africa
$13M for ‘civic engagement’ in Zimbabwe
$2M for ‘feminist democracy’ in Africa
This is what they shut down America for.”
Mace’s comments come amid ongoing debates in Congress over government funding and the use of continuing resolutions (CRs), which are temporary measures used to keep the government funded when a formal appropriations bill has not been passed. Disagreements over such measures have led to threats of government shutdowns, which can affect the pay of military personnel and other federal employees.
Nancy Mace has served in the U.S. Congress since 2021, representing South Carolina’s 1st District. She previously served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. Mace was born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in 1977 and currently resides in Charleston. She graduated from The Citadel in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
