Rep. Nancy Mace, a member of the U.S. Congress representing South Carolina’s 1st district since 2021, posted a series of statements on October 15, 2025, addressing the impact of the government shutdown on military personnel and national security.

In her first post, Mace wrote, “The Democrats’ shutdown is hitting our troops hardest. While they refuse to fund the government, President Trump took extraordinary action to make sure our men and women in uniform still get paid. @HASCRepublicans” (October 15, 2025).

In a subsequent tweet on the same day, she detailed the broader effects of the shutdown: ” The Democrats’ shutdown is more than a budget fight, it’s a national security crisis. 220,000 Department of War civilians are working without pay. 330,000 are furloughed. The military can’t sign or renew contracts, stalling critical capabilities for our” (October 15, 2025).

Mace also highlighted the financial difficulties faced by servicemembers and their families: ” Let’s be clear: 1 in 4 servicemembers struggle to put food on the table 1 in 3 live paycheck to paycheck 2 in 3 military families have less than $3,000 in savings They can’t afford the Left’s politics as usual.” (October 15, 2025).

Mace, who previously served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020 and graduated from The Citadel in 1999, was born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and currently resides in Charleston. She succeeded Joe Cunningham as representative for South Carolina’s 1st district in 2021.
