Rep. Nancy Mace, a U.S. Congresswoman representing South Carolina’s 1st district since 2021, posted a series of tweets on May 5, 2026, addressing immigration policy and local law enforcement in her state.

In one post from the afternoon of May 5, Mace wrote: “Every day is Cinco De Mayo for Chuck Schumer and the Left. Illegals first, America last.” (May 5, 2026).

Later that day, she commented on sanctuary policies in South Carolina: “South Carolina is NOT a sanctuary state. It never will be. Right here in the Lowcountry, we had a sanctuary sheriff named Kristin Graziano who refused to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement and put South Carolina families at risk. We helped get her fired. Charleston” (May 5, 2026).

In an evening tweet on the same date, Mace stated: “Two illegal immigrants having a child in the United States does not make the child a citizen. It makes a third illegal. Time to close the loophole.” (May 5, 2026).

Mace has served as U.S. Representative for South Carolina’s 1st District since defeating Joe Cunningham in 2020 and taking office in January 2021. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020 and graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977, Mace currently resides in Charleston.
