Rep. Nancy Mace, a U.S. Congresswoman representing South Carolina’s 1st district, posted a series of statements on October 3, 2025, criticizing South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson’s handling of the Logan Federico murder case and calling for federal intervention.
In her first post on October 3, Mace stated: “Asking for the DOJ to immediately intervene and take over the murder case of Logan Federico. The state Attorney General, Alan Wilson, who has never prosecuted a death penalty case, may have just TOTALLY and COMPLETELY JEOPARDIZED the case’s standing and the ability for the https://t.co/IwRhFljIRH”.
Later that day, she added: “Irresponsible. Unethical. South Carolina Attorney General needs to remember he’s a prosecutor first, not a politician, and he just jeopardized the Logan Federico case. Unreal.”
Mace continued her criticism with another statement: “Here’s the deal: the state’s top law enforcement officer and chief prosecutor CANNOT politicize a case. And by doing so, Alan Wilson forfeits the state’s right to pursue the death penalty in Logan Federico’s case because of prejudice. That’s what he’s done. It’s unforgivable.”
Mace’s comments come amid ongoing debate regarding prosecutorial conduct in high-profile cases in South Carolina. The calls for Department of Justice involvement reflect concerns about impartiality and proper legal procedure when political figures are involved in criminal prosecutions.
Nancy Mace has represented South Carolina’s 1st District in Congress since 2021 after serving in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. She was born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977 and currently resides in Charleston. Mace is also an alumna of The Citadel, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
