Rep. Nancy Mace, who has represented South Carolina’s 1st congressional district in the U.S. Congress since 2021, shared a series of posts on May 28, 2026, discussing national allegiance, migration trends to South Carolina, and her personal history at The Citadel.
In a tweet posted at 20:30 UTC on May 28, Mace wrote, “We pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. Our allegiance lies with the United States ONLY.
Foreign-born members sitting in our government have made clear time and again their loyalty is not here. Not to our laws. Not to our people. Not to our flag. We are https://t.co/hCqiLDLhWQ”
Later that evening at 22:30 UTC, she commented on population growth in her state: “Everyone is moving to South Carolina.
Last year alone, nearly 80,000 new residents chose to call our state home. They are coming for our coastlines, our warm weather, our communities, our hospitality and our way of life. South Carolina has become the state everyone wants to be https://t.co/VZMdlHm8Lz”
At 23:30 UTC on the same day, Mace reflected on her experience as a trailblazer at The Citadel: “Before Congress, there was The Citadel.
I was the first woman to graduate from the Corps of Cadets.
Nothing was handed to me there. In fact, I didn’t even tell my father I had applied and was accepted until after the fact.
This is the place where we salute the American flag,”
Mace’s background includes serving in both federal and state legislatures; she represented South Carolina’s 1st District in Congress since defeating Joe Cunningham in 2021 and previously served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977 and currently residing in Charleston, she graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999—the first woman to do so from its Corps of Cadets.
