U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, who serves South Carolina’s 1st district, marked the beginning of February by recognizing Black History Month and sharing personal moments from her daily life in a series of social media posts.
On February 1, 2026, Mace highlighted the historical significance of Black History Month with a tweet referencing Harriet Tubman’s actions during the Civil War: “February we recognize Black History Month and celebrate the impacts of Black Americans on our country. In 1863, Harriet Tubman led the Combahee River Raid right here in Beaufort County, liberating over 700 enslaved people in a single night. She became the first woman in American https://t.co/AxJPktsxni”.
Later that morning, she shared an update about her pet dog’s reluctance to go outside amid winter weather conditions: “Liberty was not having it this morning. She wants to stay indoors and off the roads. https://t.co/YmJtiCRg74”. Minutes afterward, Mace posted another observation about her dog: “Just noticed her little paw did not want to touch snow. Poor thing. “.
Mace has represented South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District since 2021 after previously serving in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. She succeeded Joe Cunningham as U.S. Congress member for the district (source). Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977 and currently residing in Charleston, Mace graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
