Rep. Nancy Mace, a U.S. Congresswoman representing South Carolina’s 1st district since 2021, posted a series of tweets on September 12, 2025, addressing the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination and responses from the Clemson University community.
In her first post at 15:26 UTC, Mace commented on the motivations behind the killing: “We truly believe if Tyler Robinson had ever sat down across from Charlie, the great debater, the man of faith and grace he was, Tyler wouldn’t have pulled the trigger.”
Later that day at 15:53 UTC, she accused two professors at Clemson University of celebrating Kirk’s death and criticized the institution for its response: “Two Clemson professors have publicly cheered the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Not one known disciplinary action. Not one word from @ClemsonUniv. Thanks to @ClemsonCRs for exposing them. If this is who’s shaping our students, parents, donors, and taxpayers deserve to know.”
At 16:30 UTC, Mace reported disruptions to her office operations due to hostile communications following Kirk’s death: “Constituents who need help can’t reach us. Over the past 48 hours, our office has been flooded with hateful and threatening voicemails after Charlie Kirk’s assassination. We’ve had to send all calls to voicemail so threats can be documented for Capitol Police, and it’s…”
Mace has represented South Carolina’s 1st District in Congress since defeating Joe Cunningham in 2021. She previously served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020 and holds a degree from The Citadel earned in 1999. Born in Fort Bragg in 1977, she currently resides in Charleston.
