Rep. Nancy Mace, who represents South Carolina’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on February 11 and 12, 2026, addressing law enforcement safety and surveillance practices involving congressional access to sensitive documents.
On February 11, Mace expressed concern for local law enforcement after an incident involving a Charleston County Sheriff’s deputy. She wrote, “We are praying for the Charleston County Sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the chest last night on Johns Island while responding to an armed suspect. By the grace of God, his body armor saved his life. He has since been treated and released. This is the reality our law”.
The following day, Mace commented on oversight procedures related to high-profile investigations: “Yes. I will confirm. DOJ is tracking the Epstein documents Members of Congress search for, open, and review. I was able to navigate the system today and I won’t disclose how or the nature of how; but confirmed the DOJ is tagging ALL DOCUMENTS Members of Congress search, open and”. In another tweet shortly thereafter she added: “I’m probably the last person you want in your software.”
Mace has served as U.S. Representative since 2021 after succeeding Joe Cunningham in South Carolina’s 1st District. Prior to her current role in Congress, she served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977 and currently residing in Charleston at age 45, Mace graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
