U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, who serves South Carolina’s 1st district, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account on May 2, 2026, addressing hurricane preparedness, federal nutrition policy, and transparency in Congress.

In her first message of the day, Mace highlighted the approaching hurricane season and urged residents to make preparations: “Hurricane season is just around the corner. We want every Lowcountry family to be safe and prepared for whatever this season brings. Get your plan in place now before June 1st. South Carolina STRONG.” (May 2, 2026).

Later that evening, Mace addressed federal nutrition assistance programs and recent legislative decisions: “SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Nutrition. Not sugar. The House voted to keep taxpayer dollars funding sugary drinks like soda for SNAP recipients. We voted NO. Taxpayers funding a nutrition program deserve to know those dollars are actually buying” (May 2, 2026).

In a third statement on government transparency and accountability, she wrote: “Congress was built to serve the people – not protect the powerful. And it has operated in the shadows for far too long, and that darkness ends now. No member and no party gets a pass any more. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. And we’re bringing it.” (May 2, 2026).

Nancy Mace has represented South Carolina’s 1st District in Congress since replacing Joe Cunningham in 2021. She previously served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Citadel earned in 1999. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977, Mace currently resides in Charleston.
