Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) issued a statement on Apr. 9 commending First Lady Melania Trump for her support of survivors of Jeffrey Epstein. Mace said that the First Lady’s actions send hope to women and make clear that the truth about the case is coming.

The issue concerns calls for transparency and accountability in the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, who was linked to allegations of abuse involving many individuals. Mace said, “Today First Lady Melania Trump bravely stood with survivors. Her words give women hope and send a clear message: the truth is coming.”

Mace described ongoing efforts by her office to obtain unredacted records related to Epstein from agencies including the Southern District of New York, the CIA, and the Department of Justice. She said these steps were taken to expose attempts to protect co-conspirators in the case.

She also stated, “We moved to subpoena powerful people allegedly tied to Epstein and our former Attorney General for mishandling the files. We have spoken directly with Epstein’s victims and their families, and we have fought alongside them every step of the way.”

Mace added that as a survivor herself, she sees this effort as personal rather than political: “As a survivor, this isn’t political, it’s personal and when the First Lady of the United States stands up and demands justice for Epstein’s victims, it is truly momentous. These women deserve to be heard. Today, they were.” She concluded her statement by saying her work would continue: “We will never stop fighting to expose the truth and deliver justice… We will NEVER back down.”

Mace has represented South Carolina’s 1st district in Congress since replacing Joe Cunningham in 2021 according to public records. Before serving in Congress beginning in 2021, she was part of South Carolina’s House of Representatives from 2018 through 2020 as reported by Ballotpedia.
