Rep. Nancy Mace, U.S. Congresswoman representing South Carolina’s 1st district since 2021, has publicly criticized Charleston airport leadership for repeated security breaches and a lack of accountability in a series of posts on November 3, 2025.
In her first post at 19:31 UTC, Mace wrote, “Charleston airport leadership has been asleep at the gate. Two dozen breaches. Zero accountability. Unacceptable.”
An hour later, she followed up with another statement: “Incompetence costs lives.” (20:35 UTC).
At 21:35 UTC, Mace reiterated her concerns about the airport’s response to ongoing threats and compared it unfavorably to other major airports: “Still waiting on Charleston Airport to take security seriously. 1,300 threats. 24 failures. Chicago and DCA responded to security incidents immediately … Charleston still can’t get it right.”
Mace’s comments highlight growing concern over security lapses at Charleston International Airport and point to what she describes as inadequate responses by its leadership compared to other airports such as those in Chicago and Washington D.C.
Nancy Mace began serving in Congress after replacing Joe Cunningham in 2021 and previously served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977, she currently resides in Charleston and graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
