Rep. Nancy Mace, who represents South Carolina’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media account on October 2, 2025 to comment on an impending federal government shutdown and its impact on military pay.

In a post published at 18:40 UTC, Mace stated, “Federal workers are about to miss paychecks. Congress won’t miss a damn thing. Our government is broken and we’re not here to play along. We will be forgoing our paychecks until our troops get theirs. Hold the Line”.

An hour later, she followed up with another statement: “Congress gets paid. Our military doesn’t. And Democrats don’t care.”

Later that evening at 20:31 UTC, Mace added, “Lets stop calling it a “shutdown.” Call it what it really is: Yet another Democratic failure.”

Nancy Mace has represented South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District since 2021 after previously serving in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. She succeeded Joe Cunningham in Congress and resides in Charleston. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977, Mace graduated from The Citadel in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
