Rep. Nancy Mace, a U.S. Congresswoman representing South Carolina’s 1st district since 2021, shared several updates on her official Twitter account this week, including details on congressional settlements funded by taxpayers and legislative progress in Washington.
On May 5, Mace posted about newly released documents concerning congressional settlements: “We have now received the files from our subpoena motion of Congress’s taxpayer-funded sexual harassment slush fund. They reveal taxpayers have paid more than $300,000 in settlements paid on behalf of six former Members of the House of Representatives or their offices.”
Later that day, she provided an update on recent legislative activity: “WEEKLY UPDATE FROM WASHINGTON FARM BILL — FIRST TIME SINCE 2018 The House passed the Farm Bill this week, delivering for our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. Our office filed eight amendments to improve the bill, and three were made in order by the Rules Committee” (May 5).
On May 6, Mace addressed ongoing investigations involving high-profile individuals: “Until we see arrests, the American people will continue to seek answers. And we will keep working to get them. Last week, we were one of only a few Members of Congress to depose Ted Waitt, billionaire and boyfriend of Ghislaine Maxwell. We will not stop until we deliver answers”.
Mace has served in Congress since replacing Joe Cunningham in 2021 and previously held office in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977 and currently residing in Charleston at age 45, she graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
