Berkeley County Stormwater Management issued the following announcement on July 16.
Berkeley County Stormwater Management, in partnership with Keep Berkeley Beautiful (KBB), is seeking volunteers and volunteer groups to help clean and care for our new WATERGOAT device in the College Park Canal in Sangaree.
The unique litter trapping device was installed in the waterway last month and is already a success, helping keep trash at bay and helping preventing flooding issues in nearby neighborhoods.
Interested in volunteering? Contact Thurman Simmons at Thurman.Simmons@berkeleycountysc.gov or 843-719-2691; or Sarah McCarthy-Smith at sarah.smith@berkeleycountysc.gov or 843-719-2383.
County Stormwater staff and KBB officials will also be on hand at the WATERGOAT site at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20 and Thursday, July 22 for a WATERGOAT Cleanup Educational Demonstration. The community is invited to attend to learn more about the device.
KBB will provide all necessary cleanup supplies to volunteers.
