Berkeley County Government issued the following announcement on November 3.
Berkeley County is proud to have a number of employees who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. We applaud their courage and sacrifice and would like to highlight a few specific employee veterans this month in observance of Veterans Day on November 11.
*SAM GAITHER: 911 COMMUNICATIONS CHIEF*
Sam Gaither, the County's 911 Communications Chief, is a 15-year veteran of the U.S. Army. He currently serves in the South Carolina National Guard as a Major - more specifically, as the Brigade S4, Logistics Officer. He's been sent on several missions all over the world: Operation Over the Horizon in El Salvador, Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait and Iraq, and Operation Atlantic Resolve in Germany, Poland, Belgium, Italy, and Greece. It was because of family tradition that Sam said he decided to join the military.
"The Army has taught me whatever you are dealing with, keep in mind it can always be worse. Be calm, figure out the problem, and solve the problem." -Sam Gaither
Thank you for serving our county and country, Sam!
