Berkeley County Middle College High School: Tyra Ramsey Hired As BCSD'S Director of Transportation

4

Berkeley County Middle College High School issued the following announcement on February 11.

At the Tuesday, February 8, meeting of the Berkeley County Board of Education, the hiring of Tyra Ramsey as the district’s Director of Transportation was approved.

Ms. Ramsey comes to BCSD with nearly 17 years of experience in the field of public transportation. Her more recent roles include two years as a vehicle maintenance supervisor with the South Carolina Department of Education and nearly seven years as the Assistant Director of Transportation at Dorchester District Two (DD2).

Ms. Ramsey will assume the director role at BCSD when she is released from her commitment to DD2.

As a product of BCSD and a resident in Berkeley County, Ms. Ramsey said she looks forward to making her family and community proud. She values the community as a resource as she works to improve the transportation service utilized by more than 19,000 Berkeley County families.

“I want to be the director that is known for coming in and getting the job done quickly and effectively,” she said. “I will not slow down until we are fully staffed and running effectively and efficiently.”

Ms. Ramsey said her immediate focus in the department will be to address the concerns of school administrators and parents. She said boots will also be on the ground in an attempt to make the jobs of bus drivers easier while addressing concerns.

“The lines of communication will be open with the transportation office and all stakeholders,” she said.

Among her long-term goals will be to make sure staff members in the transportation office know they are appreciated, and for parents to know their children are transported safely to and from school each day.

“We are excited about the impact Ms. Ramsey’s leadership will have on our transportation service,” said BCSD Chief Administrative Officer for Elementary Schools, Aimee Fulmer. “The amount of experience she brings to the office is incomparable. We know there will be challenges as our entire country continues to battle a bus driver shortage. Ms. Ramsey’s work ethic and knowledge, combined with support from our communities, could eventually set our transportation service ahead of what most public school districts are able to provide.”
