Berkeley County Middle College High School: CBE/CBM 2022-2023 STUDENT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

38

Berkeley County Middle College High School issued the following announcement on March 15.

New student registration will begin on Monday, April 4, 2022, at 10 a.m. In an effort to streamline the efficiency of enrolling students and to simplify the registration of your child, we have implemented a web-based registration process in which all aspects of student registration, including document submission, can be completed online. Registration will not be complete until all items are received.

Head Start

If you are interested in enrolling your child into the Head Start program, please complete this pre-registration form and then you will receive an email with additional information. Please call 843-899-5048 or 843-899-5092 with any questions or concerns.

If you are the parent of a student currently enrolled in Head Start, you must re-enroll with BCSD when registration opens on April 4.

Tiffany Brown – Cane Bay High

Enrollment for the SC Child Early Reading Development & Education Program (CERDEP) will open online April 4. However, there may be additional steps required.

If you are the parent of a student currently enrolled in BCSD CERDEP or Pre-K, you do not have to re-register. However, you will need to complete the returning student update process expected to launch in July.

Additional information about pre-k programs can be found at www.bcsdschools.net/preschool.

CBE/CBM 1st-8th grade

When the registration is complete (all required documents have been received by the school), the child’s name will be placed on a waitlist based on the timestamp of their completed registration.

Kindergarten students and the lottery

When the registration is complete (all required documents have been received by the school), the child’s name will be placed on a lottery list. Registration for students to be considered in the lottery will end on April 22, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. All kindergarten registrations will be reviewed to ensure they are complete. If the registration is complete, the child will be assigned a number for a lottery drawing to be held on Tuesday, April 26th. Parents will be notified via email of their child’s lottery number ahead of the drawing. The lottery will be live streamed on Berkeley County School District's YouTube channel on April 26th. If your registration is not complete by April 22, 2022 at 11:59 p.m., your child’s name will be placed on a time-stamped waitlist. All students registered during the lottery period will be assigned a number, and all numbers will be drawn. If the number of lottery registrations exceeds the number of available kindergarten spots, numbers will continue to be drawn to begin the waitlist. As mentioned above, those not registered by April 22, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. will go on the waitlist ( time stamped), after lottery registration (if needed).

If you are the parent of a student currently enrolled in BCSD CERDEP or Pre-K, you do not have to re-register. Your child will roll up into kindergarten and will not be subject to the lottery.

Important clarification

Kindergarten registration does not end on April 22, 2022, at 11:59 pm. The registration remains open; however, your child will not be eligible for the 2022-2023 CBE kindergarten lottery if the registration is not complete by that date and time.

There is NO sibling clause.

For families that do not have the necessary access to register online, you need to contact the school and the school will arrange a date and time for you to register in person.

CBE/CBM attendance cap

At the December 10, 2019 meeting of the Berkeley County Board of Education, several measures were approved in an attempt to manage growth and the appropriate service of students in the Cane Bay area of the county. At that meeting, the board approved capacity restrictions at Cane Bay Elementary and Cane Bay Middle.

Cane Bay Elementary’ s capacity will be limited to approximately 1,250 students, while Cane Bay Middle will be limited to approximately 1,475 students.

In that 2019 meeting, the board also approved attendance line changes for Wildcat Tract and undeveloped Nexton. Those owning homes or with contracts on homes in Wildcat Tract and undeveloped Nexton prior to January 29, 2020 are grandfathered into the Cane Bay feeder pattern (subject to the enrollment cap restriction and kindergarten lottery).

Students unable to attend Cane Bay Elementary or Cane Bay Middle due to the attendance cap will have the option to attend Westview schools with transportation provided. School choice is available for all Cane Bay Elementary and Cane Bay Middle students.  These students may attend any Berkeley County non-magnet school that is not yet at capacity.  Parents must provide transportation to choice schools. For new students (including kindergarten), the student will need to be registered at/with the school they are zoned. Following that process and after being assigned a student number, the family can visit this link to submit school choice options: https://bcsdextranet.bcsdschools.net/schoolchoice/
