The 2021-2022 school year will be remembered for many reasons, but arguably the biggest reason people will remember the year will be credited to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fall and winter COVID cases soared before the disease was reclassified as an endemic in the spring.
With COVID concerns dominating school issues in school systems around the globe, it should come as no surprise that Berkeley County School District saw an increase in schools recognized by the annual MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness Awards.
Thirty-one schools were recognized this year for initiatives put in place to further develop healthy teaching and learning environments. For the 2020-2021 school year, 26 we recognized.
Topping the list this year as the grand prize winner was Berkeley Elementary. In addition to being able to take the coveted wellness trophy back to Moncks Corner, the school received a $1,750 check to further wellness initiatives at the school. BES was also the grand prize winner for the 2018-2019 school year.
The two runner-up schools each received $500 prizes, and other participating schools (listed below) were scored and awarded $350 or $250.
