Jury duty is a crucial responsibility for residents

Have you ever been called for jury duty in our City’s Municipal Court? To our many residents who have performed this crucial duty, thank you!

To put it simply, maintaining law and order is not possible without our court system, and jury duty is an integral part of that system. For trials that take place in Goose Creek, the City depends on its residents to serve as jurors. In fact, this service is mandatory, and residents who do not respond to a jury duty summons could be held in contempt of court.

Being called for jury duty is rare: no resident can be called more than one time every calendar year. In order to make the service as convenient as possible, all jury trials take place in the evening, at 6:15 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays here at the Municipal Center. Jury duty notices go out two weeks prior to the trial date.

There are certain factors or circumstances that exempt, excuse or disqualify residents from jury duty. Click here to view a complete list of those exemptions.

If you have questions about jury duty or our municipal court, email Clerk of Court Amy Weatherford.
