The National Merit Scholarship Program released its annual list of scholarship semifinalists last week, and among more than 16,000 of those recognized was Hanahan’s Jessie Mae Chubb.
Chubb will have the opportunity to compete in the finalist program in the spring – an award worth $2,500.
Semifinalists were selected after a review of 2021 Preliminary SAT (PSAT) scores. There are several semifinalists per state, with the number of those selected being proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
Approximately 15,000 finalists will be named after a review of submitted applications, academic records and recommendations from school officials.
Chubb is the third Hanahan High student in recent years to be recognized as a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship. In 2021, Ethan Wood and Wyatt Carhart were named semifinalists and later finalists for the award.
