As everyone shops for friends and families this holiday season, Berkeley County School District asks residents to consider adding a district child in need to their shopping list.
Since 2016, BCSD has hosted its annual Berkeley “ONEderland” service project. The district has served more than 300 students experiencing homelessness over the past six years through Berkeley ONEderland.
Similar to the Angel Tree program, residents who sign up to sponsor a child for Christmas will receive wish list items that sponsors can shop for (these are wish list items; sponsors are asked to simply give what they feel they can achieve).
Interested sponsors may contact Renee Elvis at 843-899-8514 to receive student wish lists. BCSD requests that all purchased students' gifts come unwrapped and labeled with sponsor gift tags bundled in a large bag or box.
Bundles need to be dropped off at the Office of Student and Family Support at the Berkeley Education Center (BEC) annex building by Dec. 14. The annex building is located at 109 E. Main Street in Moncks Corner.
Residents can support these students in other ways by donating an unwrapped gift. Here is a list of suggested gift items:
- Amazon gift cards
- Video game or technology APP cards (like Google Play, Roblox)
- Grocery or local restaurant gift cards
- Unwrapped toys/clothing for grades kindergarten through 12th grade (things like craft kits and art supplies, etc.).
For questions, contact Renee Elvis or Elaine Swain at 843-899-8514.
