Teacher Cadet students in Berkeley County recently visited Charleston Southern University for their annual Teacher Cadet Day.
CSU serves as the college partner for the Teacher Cadet courses offered in Berkeley County and students enrolled in the course earn college credit.
"CSU Teacher Cadet Day gives students an opportunity to visit a college campus for a day and ask questions about the field of education and college life in general," said Paige Austell, retired BCSD teacher and current Teacher Educator Coordinator at CSU. "Our hope is to encourage Teacher Cadets to choose education as a career."
Cadets from Berkeley High School, Cane Bay High, Hanahan High and Stratford spent the day touring campus, meeting current CSU students and professors and participating in a panel discussion including representatives from the college, CERRA and CSU Teaching Fellows. Students also enjoyed an engaging discussion with the current South Carolina Teacher of the Year, Deion Jamison.
"Cadets look forward to this event every year, " said Jacci Klein, Region 5 CERRA Liaison and Berkeley High School Teacher Cadet Instructor. "Three of my former high school cadets are now Teaching Fellows at CSU and it is awesome to see them pass the torch to current Teacher Cadets."
