Berkeley County Government issued the following announcement on July 13.

Berkeley County Councilman Caldwell Pinckney presented a special proclamation honoring lifelong County resident Bernice Edwins on reaching a notable milestone: turning 100 years old.

The presentation took place at Monday night's Council meeting. Edwins’ family was there to accept the proclamation on her behalf. Edwins grew up on Laural Farms in Ridgeville, where she still lives today, and was one of the first students to ride a school bus in Berkeley County.

According to the seasoned County native, the secret to a long life can be found in the Bible, specifically in Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Edwins is the widow of the late William C. Edwins and has four children, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
